Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at admin@newfoundlandfacefit.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  • Verification of Training:  After the individual has received respirator training, a fit test checks that the person has learned how to properly don and wear a respirator without assistance.
  • Sizing: It is important to make sure that the individual is issued a properly sized respirator that is capable of providing protection when worn properly.

All tight-fitting respirators require a seal in order to work. If an employer requires a worker to wear the following types of respirators, a fit test is needed:

  • Filtering facepieces such as N95 or KN95 masks
  • Half-face respirators
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA’s)

  • We currently fit test the following respirators:
  • MSA G1
  • 3M Scott
  • Draeger P & RA Models
  • Half Face Respirator
  • N95

  • Avoid eating, drinking, or smoking for at least 45 minutes before the test, as this can affect the results.
  • Make sure your face is clean-shaven, as facial hair can interfere with the mask's seal.
  • Bringing the respirator you plan to use at work is also necessary.

  • A qualitative fit test relies on your senses to determine if there is a gap in the seal of your respirator.
  • A quantitative fit test uses an instrument to numerically measure the effectiveness of your respirator.
  • Newfoundland Face Fit use the most current TSI Portacount  quantitative equipment.

  • CSA Z94.4-18
